Small groups of students signed up for different time slots in order to reimagine an old tradition in a year that has changed so much. While wearing masks, students worked collaboratively through the night and into the early morning hours to fill Kauke arch in hopes of cancelled classes. No classes were cancelled but they did a pretty amazing job despite the limit on crowd size.

For the second Wednesday in a row, hundreds of students, staff, faculty, and alumni gathered online to discuss the state of race relations in America and what actions we can take individually and as a community to end systemic racism.
The Department of History last evening hosted 8 Minutes and 46 Seconds to Revolution: Making Sense of the George Floyd and Breonna Taylor Protests, a roundtable featuring experts who helped the ºÚÁÏÉç campus community understand how we got to this point and where we go from here.
The event featured four scholars of the black experience, all with longstanding and deep connections to our College of ºÚÁÏÉç community:

  • Kabria Baumgartner, Associate Professor of English and Women’s & Gender Studies, University of New Hampshire
  • Shannon King, Associate Professor of History, Fairfield University
  • Charles Peterson, Professor of Africana Studies, Oberlin College & Conservatory
  • Nicosia Shakes, Assistant Professor of Africana Studies and Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies, College of ºÚÁÏÉç

Special guest appearances were made by Leslie Wingard, Associate Professor of English, College of ºÚÁÏÉç, and Marc Goulding, Associate Professor of History, University of Central Oklahoma.

Over 400 students, staff, faculty, and alumni reaffirmed the urgent need for change on campus and broadly as part of a Community Care Gathering, held Wednesday, June 3. Before registering, attendees were asked to share what they will do to end racism. We compiled some of their answers in this video to visualize our community’s collective commitment to this critical mission.
