Male infertility is an under-researched field, especially when it comes to the implications of lifestyle/environmental factors. One of these factors is pornography usage and exposure. The present study aims to examine the relationship between pornography usage and ejaculate parameters in the context of male infertility. It was hypothesized that a positive correlation would be seen between age of first exposure to pornography and ejaculate parameters, based on the previous findings of Camacho (2022). Joseph et al. (2015) established a significant relationship between male ejaculate volume and motile sperm when exposed to images of novel women. It was additionally hypothesized that males exposed to pornography at a younger age may have become desensitized to pornography. Participants underwent the viewing of two different pornographic stimuli. A significant negative correlation was found between age of first exposure to pornography and sperm number using both mainstream and POV pornography. A significant negative correlation was also found between age of first exposure to pornography and motile sperm number, though only with POV pornography. The findings of this study indicate that there is a relationship between age of first exposure and ejaculate parameters. No relationship between pornographic habits and desensitization was seen with measured ejaculate parameters. Future studies could include the use neuroimaging or physiological techniques to examine brain activity and arousal responses in individuals with varying ages of first exposure. Or exploring longitudinal changes in pornography consumption and ejaculation parameters over time.
