Herons Overhead is structured around my impactful experiences with herons, marking different parts of my life. A kind of moments musicaux, these heron sightings are represented through a series of harmonic developments, rhythmic motives and textural colors. Live dance is included to visually portray the emotions I felt as I viewed the herons. Whether the situation was loud and bustling or dead silent, the combination of aural and visual stimuli worked together to create this captured time of herons flying overhead.
Over the course of writing this piece, I absorbed an immense swath of music and found inspiration in new types of ways. Every project has been an exploration forward as I work to find my personal style. In the future I hope to write more interdisciplinary pieces such as Herons Overhead. Mixing mediums brings a unique flavor to any creative endeavor.
