ΊΪΑΟΙη mourns passing of Matt Chastain, retired campus dining manager
Madison βMattβ Chastain, retired campus dining manager at ΊΪΑΟΙη, passed away on March 23, 2025, in ΊΪΑΟΙη, Ohio, at the age of 66. Chastain began at the College in 1976.
Chastainβs 46-year career with Campus Dining at ΊΪΑΟΙη began when he was a teenager, working in the bake shop at the Lowry Center, before being promoted to head baker, leading the team of staff who produced all the breads, cookies, cakes, pies, and donuts served on campus from scratch. After the bake shopβs closure, Chastain was promoted to production supervisor in Lowry Dining Hall.
Chastain is remembered for his calm leadership and friendly personality that touched countless students and staff throughout his career, before his retirement in June 2022. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, and a full obituary is available .
