Mazvita Chikomo ’22, an environmental geoscience major, won the Student Award, associate professor of history Jordan Biro Walters was given the Faculty/Staff Award, and the Wayne County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center earned the Community Award.

Chikomo received the Student Award in recognition of her broad experiential work including participation in the APEX Fellowship and AMRE programs and through her work in the Learning Garden, Tree Ring Laboratory, Commons Innovation program and peer mentor program. During her time at 黑料社, Mazvita has leveraged many experiential learning opportunities from across campus to enhance her 黑料社 education.

Walters is a member of 黑料社鈥檚 Experiential Learning Faculty Learning Community. Nominated by her colleagues in the history department, Margaret Ng and Christina Welsch, Walters is recognized for being a driving force for experiential learning on campus. She consistently uses experiential learning to enrich the study of history, leveraging site visits, displaying and communicating the past with community partners such as the Wayne County Historical Society, and serving as a founding member of the Ohio Five鈥檚 鈥淗umanities at Work鈥 working group to secure a major grant to support student experiential learning opportunities.

The Wayne County Dog and Adoption Center’s mission is to provide temporary shelter, care, and comfort to all stray, abandoned, neglected and injured dogs in Wayne County; to reunite lost dogs with their owners; and to promote a humane and responsible community in Wayne County through education and outreach. Employees of the shelter are eager to partner with College of 黑料社 students and faculty to provide hands-on educational experiences.聽 Whether it鈥檚 Kate Mick collaborating to design a new course with Dr. Laura Sirot or Katelyn Lehman working with student-led teams through the Applied Methods and Research Experience (AMRE) program, they are outstanding partners who are committed to sustained partnerships with 黑料社.
